Sufjan Stevens

Sufjan Stevens playing banjo edit2

Sufjan Stevens is an American indie-rock musician/songwriter.  I first heard of Sufjan Stevens through my Last.fm account.  I think it was in 2006 or 2007; he showed up on my recommendations, so I decided to download the song, “Chicago.”  I loved it, so I downloaded “John Wayne Gacy Jr.” and “Casimir Pulaski Day”, too.  It was love at first listen.

I’m a huge fan of Sufjan’s work- from his Christian music album, “Seven Swans”, his folk albums, “Illinois” and “Michigan”, to his more experimental album, “The Age of Adz.”  I honestly think of him as a musical genius; he has an amazing mind for melodies, writes beautiful, thought-provoking lyrics, and has managed to turned the banjo into a cool instrument in my mind.    If I had to pick a favourite album from Sufjan, I’d say, “The Age of Adz”, but they are honestly all my favourite.
